Letter To A Virgin Burner, From Me

Hello, my name is Liberty (or Sliced Bread)!

Hello, my name is Liberty (or Sliced Bread)!

So, someone had organized this cute thing where veteran burners write letters to virgin burners; words of wisdom, advice or whatever. I wrote one and here's what it says:

Dear Virgin Burner!

Boy! You are in for a journey! An epic adventure! A real game changer!

Four years ago, at my first Burn my eyes were opened to so many new things. Things I learned about myself, others, and just being a human being in general. Burning Man actually made me re-think what I was doing with my life and then shortly after I made a career change! In a way, I was re-born. Burning Man has made a huge impact on my life. It's as if Burning Man is a character in my story I call My Life.

My first year I cried a lot. And you know what. It's ok. Even though I was going through some shitty things in life, that didn't stop me from connecting with new friends, people I am still very close with today. I found meaning in the most subtle of things at the Burn that year. Every year at Burning Man my experience was always different. My 2nd year was so much more freeing. I felt like a weight had been lifted off my shoulders and I could really let loose and relax and have a good time. My 3rd year revolved around gratitude for everything and everyone, also trying new things with non-judgement. This year will be my 4th Burn and I am really looking forward to see what this year will bring me!

You can make your Burn experience whatever it is you want it to be. Maybe you do need an experience of grieving and crying and just being alone at times. I bet you will find some of the answers that you seek if your eyes and your heart are open.

What I always found so enthralling about the Burn is the synchroncity that happens all the time on the playa! There are no coincidences! Crazy things happen for a reason. Things that you may need always seems to pop up at the most convenient time. The playa provides!

Also, always know that people are looking out for you. They want to make sure you are ok, and that you are having a good time. Even if they don't know you. They do. And they are your friend:) Absolutely be a friend back and look out for others too. Give gifts when you can. A gift can simply be a kind word or a hug. Bring this back with you into the default world. Sprinkle your burner knowledge everywhere! It's contagious.

Have a ball! Do silly things! Try new and maybe slightly scary things too. Thats when the magic happens. Thats where you make the memories and create stories to share.

I love you.

Happy Burn!
